Bill to Increase Medicare Reimbursement??

TechnologyDaily on Wednesday looked at two new bills that aim to provide funding for health information technology initiatives. Reps. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) and Timothy Murphy (R-Pa.) are expected to introduce legislation that would allocate $50 million for 20 competitive grants to support pilot regional health IT networks. The bill, which is expected to be introduced within the next three weeks, would increase physicians' Medicare reimbursements and support the creation of electronic prescribing, TechnologyDaily reports. Murphy and Kennedy currently are looking for bill co-sponsors, Technology Daily reports. Mike Zamore, a policy adviser for Kennedy, said the bill is intended to increase awareness of and support for health IT initiatives.Meanwhile, Sen. Michael Enzi (R.-Wyo.) also is crafting an IT-related bill. The legislation is expected to be introduced in the next two months, but details are not yet available, TechnologyDaily reports (Barrett, TechnologyDaily, 4/13).
