Providers in the Massachusetts communities of Brockton, Newburyport and North Adams will participate in a three-year pilot program to implement interoperable electronic medical records, the Boston Business Journal reports. The $50 million program will include 34 organizations, such as hospitals and insurers, as well as corresponding physician offices, imaging centers and laboratories. The initiative will involve installation of software that will allow providers to access medical records, physician orders and other information through a unified computer system, the Business Journal reports. BlueCross BlueShield of Massachusetts has provided funding for the program, which will be operated by the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (Boston Business Journal, 3/30).
