GONZALEZ LEGISLATION ENCOURAGES DOCTORS TO TRANSITIONFROM PAPER TO ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS

(Washington, DC) -- Thursday, Congressman Charlie Gonzalez (D-TX) and John McHugh (R-NY) introduced legislation in the U.S. House that encourages the nation’s healthcare providers to adopt interoperable health information technologies that both improve quality and efficiency and lower costs for the healthcare consumer. This bipartisan legislation will help support the goal set by President Bush of establishing a national network of interoperable health information technology within 10 years.
“The development and implementation of a truly interoperable nationwide health information technology infrastructure will result in improved health care quality, fewer medical errors, coordinated patient care, and significantly reduced health care costs,” said Congressman Charlie Gonzalez. “Ultimately, this bill is about helping healthcare providers improve the services they are providing to their patients.” ......more http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/tx20_gonzalez/PRHIT02102005.html
